Coco Gauff Reveals She Got in a Car Accident on Drive to French Open: ‘The Car Was Not Drivable’

Coco Gauff is spilling the tea about spilling her juice!

The reigning French Open champ, 22, shared that she got in a “mini car accident” on the way to Roland-Garros in Paris on Tuesday, May 26.

“You felt a little impact, I spilled my juice all over the car,” Gauff told the TNT broadcasting crew in a live shot. “I was like, ‘We can keep going,’ then I walk out of the car, and the car was not driveable.”

The accident happened before the world No. 4 took on country mate Taylor Townsend in the first round of the tournament.

Gauff won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.

The win comes just over two weeks after the 2023 US Open champ shared that she was dealing with “personal things off the court” and that led her to hit herself twice on the head with her racket during her match at the Italian Open on May 9.

In video from the moment, Gauff hit her head hard, twice, in quick succession as she walked toward her chair for a set break.

While she dropped the first set, Gauff eventually went on to win the match in three sets, 5-7, 6-0, 6-4.

As for the unexpected delay getting to the French Open grounds on Tuesday, the Florida native put a positive spin on it all.

“I feel like it’s a good omen maybe?” Gauff told the TNT crew. “It was an eventful day. I feel like whenever that happens it lets you not think about the match too much … [it’s] more about I’m just happy to be here in one piece.”

Gauff’s friend and former pro tennis player Chris Eubanks had another way to sum it all up.

“Pretty crazy start to your title defense,” he said.
