Amanda Anisimova’s 2026 season has been marred by injury setbacks and a struggle for consistency. The American suffered another setback at the start of her North American hardcourt swing, falling to Elina Svitolina in the fourth round of the Canadian Open.

The defeat proved particularly emotional for Anisimova, with her emotions spilling over during the match.

How Amanda Anisimova Reacted During Her Canadian Open Loss

After reaching the Wimbledon final last year, Anisimova was unable to reproduce that success at the grass-court Major this season, losing to Madison Keys in the third round. After a short break, the American returned to competition at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto.

Following a first-round bye, No. 8 seed Anisimova received a walkover into the third round, where she claimed a 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 comeback win over Nikola BartƯƈkovå. The 24-year-old failed to make a similar comeback against No. 9 seed Elina Svitolina in the fourth round, as the Ukrainian claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory to advance to the quarterfinals.

Anisimova’s frustration with her performance boiled over in an emotional moment during the match, as she was seen shedding tears during a changeover.

While speaking to the press after her third-round win, Anisimova candidly spoke about her struggles to find joy on the court this season, revealing that she finally felt like herself again when facing BartƯƈkovå.

“I feel like I’m past that point with like the points and everything. I’m just trying to find my game, and, yeah, find myself on the court. I feel like it’s been a really long year. I’m trying to find my enjoyment as well. I think that was really important for me today is that I felt like I was myself again on the court. I was kind of missing that for the last few months,” Anisimova said.

Amanda Anisimova will now hope to produce a stronger campaign at the Cincinnati Open and gain momentum for the US Open, where she will be defending points from her run to last year’s final. The WTA 1000 event is scheduled to get underway on August 13.
