Carlos Alcaraz’s wrist injury has led a doctor with the Italian Federation to speculate about the Spaniard’s mental health, sparking a strong reaction from a tennis Insider. The doctor suggested that Alcaraz’s injury might lead the Spaniard to severe depression that could completely alter his game.
A tennis reporter, José Morón, has strongly criticized the doctor for bringing up a mental health angle to Alcaraz’s injury.
“This is absolutely DISGRACEFUL 😡 The chief doctor of the Italian Tennis Federation, Gianni Daniele, speaks about Alcaraz like this.”
He also explained that the federation president, Angelo Binaghi, had made similar remarks in the past, which is part of a broader issue reflecting how an Italian Federation treats Spanish players.
“It seems utterly abhorrent to me that from the Italian Tennis Federation, both its president Binaghi and now the chief doctor, would have words of such magnitude toward Alcaraz.”
” I can’t imagine the Spanish Federation saying anything about Jannik. You’ve got to have more class 🤬.”
The chief doctor of the Italian Tennis Federation, Gianni Daniele, first expressed uncertainty about the severity of Alcaraz’s injury, before making a mental health diagnosis:
“From Spain, it hasn’t been known with certainty what type of wrist injury Carlos had. Now he would be going through a kind of mental weakness.”
“Having difficulties recovering the previous work intensity, a kind of depression would have been created in his head, a vicious circle that doesn’t allow him to have the confidence he had before.”
Carlos Alcaraz Criticized by Italian Federation President for Yacht Purchase
Earlier this year, Carlos Alcaraz had commissioned a custom luxury Yacht that received criticism from the Italian Federation president, Angelo Binaghi.
Binaghi compared Alcaraz with Jannik Sinner, suggesting that the world No. 1 Sinner would never splurge on something so big.
“If I may make a comparison: unlike Alcaraz, Jannik would never buy a six-million-euro yacht. I’m convinced of it, and I doubt anyone can prove me wrong.”
Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open, and it remains to be seen if the Spaniard fully recovers to make a successful US Open comeback.
