The final Masters 1000 of the season, ATP Paris, has arrived, a rare one-week event that could finalize the lineup for the ATP Finals. The draw is stacked, but several players will be absent as they are unable to compete in this final stretch.

Which Players Have Withdrawn from ATP Paris?

Defending champion Jannik Sinner’s potential entry into Paris never even got off the ground as he withdrew from the entire indoor hard court swing. At this point, Sinner’s absence has become commonplace and he has officially lost the World No. 1 ranking. Despite losing 1000 points, Sinner remains firmly in the top 2 and will have strong seeding at the start of the 2027 season. Sinner utterly dominated this tournament last year, and his withdrawal leaves room for a new player to lift the trophy.

The other finalist from last year will be absent as well as Felix Auger-Aliassime has withdrawn, ending his season. His inability to defend his points in his best part of the season—indoor hard courts—has sunk him from the top 10, and when his ATP Finals points drop off he’ll only fall further. It’s disappointing for any player to miss the end of the season, but for Auger-Aliassime it’s an especially brutal time for an injury.

Joao Fonseca also ended his season early due to injury, with a similar timeline to Sinner. He hasn’t played since giving a walkover in the third round of Cincinnati.

The last two withdrawals are due to more recent injuries. Alexander Bublik retired in his semifinal match against Daniil Medvedev in Almaty and has withdrawn from all tournaments since. Jakub Mensik has also withdrawn with injury following his second-round loss in Vienna. Mensik had an outside opportunity to qualify for the ATP Finals, but it won’t be possible now.

Who Replaced Those Players in the ATP Paris Main Draw?

With the ATP Paris draw condensed and full of top players, no one has an easy first round, and all the alternates are currently ranked inside the top 50.

Two alternates, Luca Van Assche (replacing Fonseca) and Mariano Navone (replacing Bublik) will play each other in the first round. Van Assche has the slight advantage by ranking, he’ll have a home crowd behind him, and he tends to perform better than Navone on indoor hard courts.

Matteo Berrettini, into the main draw due to Auger-Aliassime’s withdrawal, has played well lately but will have to face Brandon Nakashima in the first round, a player who just defeated him in straight sets in Shanghai.

Mensik’s withdrawal, which came just before the main draw was made, left room for Quentin Halys. Halys would have been in the main draw regardless, as he had a wildcard, but that wildcard was reassigned to Moise Kouame as Halys’ ranking did the trick. Halys hasn’t lost a straight-set match since Gstaad, and he always manages to challenge top players.

Rounding out the alternates is Daniel Merida as he takes Sinner’s place. So far, Merida hasn’t had much success on indoor hard courts.
