Nick Kyrgios and Grigor Dimitrov have managed just three tour-level victories between them this year.
The pair has been dealing with injury setbacks, and neither looks close to being in contention for a title anytime soon.
But the upcoming Mallorca Championships could give them both a shot at finding some form again.
The draw has worked in their favour, giving Kyrgios and Dimitrov realistic chances to pick up wins during their time in Spain.
Nick Kyrgios and Grigor Dimitrov start Mallorca campaigns against qualifiers
Kyrgios and Dimitrov, both playing as wildcards, will open their Mallorca Championships against qualifiers. Itâs a draw that gives them a real shot at building momentum. Kyrgios, ranked 899th, and Dimitrov, sitting at 169th, have better odds of coming through than against many main-draw regulars.
No oneâs expecting a walkover â far from it. But if they canât navigate past this opening round, itâll be tough to avoid bigger questions about where their games are heading.
If Kyrgios gets through his first match, heâd be up against the second seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the next round. The Spaniard has just made the quarter-finals at Queenâs and will have plenty of home support behind him in Mallorca.
Dimitrov could face either the sixth-seeded Corentin Moutet or Hungaryâs Marton Fucsovics in his second-round match. If both Kyrgios and Dimitrov advance to the third round, theyâd meet in what would be their fifth career encounter. Dimitrov currently leads their head-to-head 3-1.
It wouldnât carry the same weight as their Cincinnati final from nearly a decade ago but with a semi-final spot on offer you can bet theyâll both be up for it. Of course, thereâs still plenty to happen before then. First up is waiting to see which qualifiers stand between them and another step forward in Spain.
Are Nick Kyrgios and Grigor Dimitrov playing singles at Wimbledon?
Neither player had a high enough ranking to gain direct entry into the main draw, so both needed wild cards to play singles.
Dimitrov received one, having been two sets up on eventual champion Jannik Sinner before retiring injured last year. Kyrgios, though, wasnât as lucky.
The 2022 finalist missed out on a singles wild card but was offered a spot in the doubles draw alongside Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan.
Kyrgios will no doubt be hoping for a strong run in doubles to show he was worth considering for singles. This yearâs tournament gets underway on Monday, June 29.
