Rafael Jodar’s biggest French Open win turned into a messy social-media trial after a clip appeared to show a ball girl stumbling near him.
The Spanish teenager had just beaten Alex Michelsen in five sets at Roland Garros, a serious breakthrough on a major stage.
Instead of only discussing the tennis, fans spent the aftermath arguing over whether the first viral angle showed a shove or a badly timed trip.
Rafa Jodar ball girl incident splits tennis fans
Jack Unheard shared the clip that fueled the allegation, but the online reaction quickly turned into a fight over camera angle, contact and intent.
One fan wrote, “Jack you are the loser. He never touched her“
Another disagreed, posting, “This needs to be investigated and she wasn’t blocking his way , he needs to be invited by disciplining committee.”
A third argued, “He doesn’t, another camera angle shows that he didn’t touch her, and that she tripped like many others have on the stupid advertising boards around the court while moving out of his way.”
The anger was not all measured. One reply said, “Hope her dad in an MMA expert with a thirst for revenge.”
Another user pointed to the object in Jodar’s hand, writing, “He throws his wristband or something up, and here on the right behind the guys back you see it coming down. Jodar didn’t touch the girl.”
What Rafa Jodar said after the French Open controversy
Jodar denied pushing the ball girl when he was asked about the moment after the match.
He said he was trying to get something from his father around a bathroom break, and that the ball girl was moving backward when she lost balance. His explanation was direct: he said he did not touch her and could never push a ball kid.
That matters because the first angle looked ugly enough to spark outrage, but other reports described the footage as inconclusive.
Some later views suggested she may have tripped near a tarp or court-side covering as she moved out of the way.
Jodar’s Michelsen win should not be lost completely
The controversy overshadowed a major result for Jodar, who beat Michelsen 7-6, 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the third round.
That was a gutsy five-set win for a 19-year-old building real momentum at Roland Garros.
The fair read is simple. The original clip created a furious reaction, but the available context proves Jodar did not shove the ball girl.
It does prove how quickly tennis outrage moves when a short angle looks worse than the full scene.
