Iga Swiatek has brought in a new coach just 10 days after parting ways with Wim Fissette, replacing him with Francisco Roig.

The Belgian isn’t wasting any time getting back to work, already preparing for his next role. Swiatek’s decision to move on from Fissette comes after just six months working together, including a strong run at the 2024 French Open where she won her third straight title.

Fissette, who took over from Tomasz Witkorowski in December 2023, also helped Swiatek claim titles in Madrid and Rome during their short partnership. Still, it wasn’t enough for the Polish star to feel confident heading into Wimbledon.

Wim Fissette took over as Belgium’s Billie Jean King Cup captain in 2023 and, after a slow start, has now guided the team to five straight wins.

Belgium are now just one win away from reaching the Billie Jean King Cup Finals for the first time since 2022, when they went out in the group stage after losing both matches.

This time around, they’ll need to get past Team USA, who have won the competition a record 18 times. The tie will take place in Ostend on April 10 and 11.

There are some notable absences for the Americans though. Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova and Madison Keys are all missing from their squad. Even without them, Lindsay Davenport’s team still look strong on paper.

For Belgium, Elise Mertens will be key. The world doubles number one and singles world number 20 brings valuable experience to a side hoping to spring an upset and book their spot at the Finals in Shenzhen later this year.

If not, it’ll be Team USA returning to China with hopes of improving on last year’s run to the final where they lost to Italy.

What are the chances Wim Fissette returns to WTA coaching?

While he’ll be busy in Belgium for a while, the Billie Jean King Cup captaincy isn’t a full-time role.

The majority of his calendar is open, giving him flexibility to work with another player, as he did previously with Swiatek and Naomi Osaka.

So the question is: who might be next on his list?

Just as Swiatek and Fissette parted ways, another top WTA star split from her coach.

Anisimova wrapped up 2025 by reaching the finals at both Wimbledon and the US Open, picking up two WTA 1000 titles along the way, and climbing as high as number three in the rankings.

The American ended her partnership with Hendrik Vleeshouwers after Miami Open.

If there’s one thing we learned in 2025, it’s that Amanda Anisimova has enormous potential. She’s one of the strongest players on tour with every reason to believe she can break through and win a major title sooner rather than later.

It could happen. Kim Clijsters certainly thinks so. The four-time Grand Slam champion recently discussed Fissette as an option for Anisimova during her ‘Love All’ podcast.

Anisimova hasn’t made any decisions yet, but if she chooses to bring Fissette into her camp, it will be an intriguing storyline heading into 2026.
