Iga Swiatek is getting ready for a new chapter without Wim Fissette, having ended their coaching partnership after the Miami Open.
Swiatek and Fissette went their separate ways after she was beaten by Magda Linette in her first match of the tournament.
Coco Gauff moved ahead of Swiatek in the WTA rankings after the event, with Gauff climbing to third and Swiatek falling to fourth.
Swiatek has played 18 matches this year, holding a 12-6 record but still looking for her first title of the season.
But most of the attention around Swiatek at the moment is on her split with Fissette, something former doubles player Rennae Stubbs has weighed in on.
Rennae Stubbs says Wim Fissette gave Iga Swiatek mixed messages
Speaking on her podcast, she said: “I did get the interpretation of what was being yelled on the court and a lot of it was all positive.
“Stick to the game plan, be positive. And it’s hard when you don’t understand the language and they are yelling back and forth.
“But a lot of that is also on Iga. You can’t lose your s— like that on the court. You have got to find the answers for yourself.
“As one of the best players over the last five years. You have to be able to tap into what you know is your best stuff on the court and not look to your player’s box for the answers.
“Those answers need to be answered on the practice court. You need to be able to feel what you want to do on the match court, on the practice court.
“You are not going to be able to change it or fix it on the match court, where you are under pressure. There is all the spotlight and all the expectation.”
I think there probably needed to be a change in coaching at some point. There were some things that Wim was saying that was a bit confusing even to me,” she continued.
Stubbs then turned attention back onto Swiatek herself as she discussed how she could improve her own game, starting with her serve accuracy.
She added: “I think she needs to be more accurate with her serve, I think she needs to find variety and bring back the drop shot which she used to hit as a kid all the time. How Has Iga Swiatek’s Serve Performed on Tour in 2026?
This marks a key point in Swiatek’s season, and perhaps even her career, as she shifts her attention to the clay-court stretch.
Expectations were higher for her during the hard-court swing, especially after helping Poland win the United Cup to start the year.
But things haven’t worked out for Swiatek in her four tournaments since then, which involved three successive quarterfinal exits before that opening loss in Miami.
A stronger serve could be what helps turn things around, but she’ll have to make those adjustments without Fissette’s experience behind her.
