Apr. 24—The Centralia girls tennis team won another EvCo match on Wednesday, defeating Aberdeen on the road 4-2.

Maya Lackie won the top singles match in straight sets, overcoming a 2-5 first-set deficit to take a 1-0 lead before sealing the match by winning the second set.

“Maya proved her senior resilience,” Centralia coach Keith Hopkins said. “She’s been a great groundstroker, but today she became a great strategist. It was awesome to watch.”

Esther Hopkins lost her first set 3-6, but lost just one game over the next two sets to win her match in three.

“I’m super proud of the way she rebounded,” Keith Hopkins said. “True grit.”

Ayden Butler and Madi Breckel won their doubles match, as did Saryn Pelesky and Suki Bringman.

“We talk a lot about 51 percent,” Keith Hopkins said. “That’s the percentage of points needed to win. You may lose 49 percent of your points. It happens to the best players in the world. So ‘let it go.’ Our girls did that very well today, and the scores show it.”

Brook Frakes and Neela Haywood went to a tiebreak in their first two sets, splitting them, before ultimately losing a super tiebreak.

The Tigers will be back at home on Friday to host Montesano.
