Tennis: Bulldogs sweep Wildcats 5-0, top Pirates 4-1

The Batesville tennis team hosted the Franklin county Wildcats Tuesday in another EIAC matchup. The Bulldogs swept the Wildcats 5-0 to advance to 8-2 (4-1 EIAC) on the season.

At No. 1 singles, Batesville’s Caleb Mohr won 6-0, 6-1. Batesville’s Jevan Smith won the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Carson Meyer was also a 6-0, 6-0 victor.

Batesville’s No. 1 doubles team of Lincoln Garrett and Wes Peters only gave up one game in winning 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Batesville’s Landon Raver and Owen Westerfeld as Franklin County retired.

The Bulldogs host Columbus East at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for Senior Night with Senior Night ceremony beginning at 5 p.m.

Greensburg played host to EIAC rival Batesville Monday in tennis action. The Bulldogs improved to 7-2 on the season and 3-1 in the EIAC with a 4-1 victory over the Pirates.

At No. 1 singles, Batesville’s Mohr was defeated 6-3, 6-0 by Greensburg’s Mason McNulty. Batesville’s Smith won the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Meyer posted a 6-3, 6-0 win.

Batesville’s No. 1 doubles team of Garrett and Peters won 6-3, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Batesville’s Raver and Westerfeld won 6-1, 6-1.

Rushville

The Lions varsity team picked up a third win in the last four matches, posting a 5-0 victory against Knightstown.

At No. 1 singles, Rushville’s Clayton Chase defeated Isaac Livesay 6-3, 6-3. Rushville’s Kaceik Lunsford defeated Daniel Gross 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 10-7 at No. 2 singles. Rushville’s Brady Martz won the No. 3 singles match with Grey Williams 6-1, 6-3.

In doubles, Rushville’s No. 1 team of Joel Downey and Max Reyolds defeated Adams and Pyle 6-2, 6-4. Rushville’s No. 2 doubles team of Jakob Sloan and Josh Campbell knocked off Tarik and Gallien 6-2, 6-0.

The 4-6 Lions return to action Thursday at New Castle.
