Susanna Hundt of St. Joan Antida/Chesterton Academy girls tennis wins athlete of the week

Susanna Hundt of St. Joan Antida/Chesterton Academy girls tennis was the winner of last week’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Piggly Wiggly high school athlete of the week poll for Oct. 20 to Oct. 25.

The junior made her third straight appearance at the WIAA Division 2 state individual girls tennis tournament as the top overall seed and won the D2 state title with a 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 victory over No. 2 seed Sasha Quandt of Lourdes Academy in the final. Hundt finished her season at a perfect 30-0 with the victory, dropping just four games before the championship match.

Hundt received 4,653 of 8,656 total votes cast.

The state champion sister duo of Amelia and Lizzie Stuckslager of Divine Savior Holy Angels girls tennis were the runners-up in last week’s poll. Lizzie, the elder sister, won her third Division 1 state doubles title with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Arrowhead’s Sarah Neubert and Isabella Heidenberger with her younger sister Amelia on Oct. 18. It was Amelia’s second state title match appearance in two seasons after qualifying for last year’s doubles title match with Lizzie playing singles for DSHA.

Other nominees included Addison Roesch of DSHA girls golf, Caroline Raster of Brookfield East girls tennis and Payton Haugen of Brookfield East girls golf.
