Stefanos Tsitsipas’ struggles continued at the Monte-Carlo Masters, adding another setback to what has been a difficult run of form.

The 27-year-old Greek was beaten 7-5, 6-4 by Francisco Cerundolo in his opening match, marking his second consecutive defeat in official tournaments.

He arrived in Monaco after a loss to Arthur Fils in the Miami Open round of 32, extending a sequence that is now impacting his standing in the rankings.

According to The Tennis Letter, Tsitsipas is, at best, projected to fall to world number 65 in the next ATP rankings update.

He currently sits at number 48, meaning such a drop would represent his lowest position since 2018 and underline a significant downturn.

The potential fall is notable given his previous status as a world number three and a three-time Monte-Carlo Masters champion.

Losing at the first hurdle in Monaco, a tournament where he has historically excelled, has further compounded concerns over his current trajectory.

Stefanos Tsitsipas still set for doubles appearance with brother Pavlos

Despite his singles exit, Tsitsipas will remain involved in Monte-Carlo through the doubles competition.

He is set to partner his 20-year-old brother Pavlos, marking another appearance alongside a sibling at the event.

The pair will face Indian Wells champions Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard in the opening round next Tuesday, 7 May, offering Tsitsipas a chance to regain momentum.
