Serena Williams’ return to tennis remains one of the most hotly anticipated announcements of the year, but for now, she’s keeping fans in the dark.

Never one to turn down the opportunity to turn things into a spectacle, the iconic American superstar has been seemingly edging towards a comeback, without confirming anything herself.

After all, it took just a 51-second video to give fans all the fuel they needed to start getting excited all over again.

In the video, Serena simply props up her phone on a tennis court, returns to the service line and practices her serves.

She has confessed to not missing tennis all that much and enjoying the free time that has come with her retirement.

However, these persisting rumours, and the fact that she continues to fan the flames with posts like this, suggest there might be cause for optimism that her return could come sooner than ever.

The latest on Serena’s potential comeback to tennis still offers no concrete confirmation from the woman herself.

However, other sources have searched tirelessly to find any information to justify the fanfare, with plenty of success.

Hours after she was confirmed to have re-entered the ITIA’s list of players registered for the drug testing pool, she tweeted: “I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy.”

Journalist Ben Rothenberg debunked that claim though, recently tweeting: “The Serena comeback is now officially official.”

This came after he offered a timeframe on her potential comeback, confirming that she would be eligible to play again at the end of this month.

And, to add further fuel to the fire, Alycia Parks, a current WTA star, recently admitted: “I actually practised with her last Monday.

“She is in great shape. So I think she would kill it on tour.”
