Serena Williams will be eligible to return from February 22.

After spending six months in the anti-doping testing pool, the 23-time Grand Slam champion will be allowed to return to competition in 11 days.

It’s unclear whether or not she will choose to return, but it’s hard to imagine Williams would have gone through all this fuss for no reason.

Some believe the American will compete alongside her sister, Venus Williams at the US Open later this year.

But what if she did return to singles competition? How competitive would she be?

Her former coach, Rick Macci, says that Williams thinks she will be a Grand Slam contender.

Rick Macci says Serena Williams ‘expects’ to win a 24th Grand Slam

On X, Macci shared his thoughts on Williams’ rumored return.

“When Serena [Williams] starts playing, she is going all in,” he said.

“This is not a cameo or guest appearance.

“The Compton Comet thinks and expects she can win another Grand Slam.

“Never ever count out the heart of a G.O.A.T. or lion, and 120 mph serves will be flying.”

Macci is convinced that if Williams does return, she will do so with full belief that she can add to her Grand Slam tally.

And if she does, she’ll tie Novak Djokovic’s Grand Slam record.

The Serbian legend is a 24-time major champion, having enjoyed more success at the four Grand Slams than anyone else in the Open Era.

Only time will tell if Williams will return to tennis, but if she does, perhaps Djokovic will need to look over his shoulder!

What happened the last time Serena Williams played a Grand Slam tournament?

Williams last played a professional tournament at the 2022 US Open.

Fans flocked to Arthur Ashe Stadium to watch one of the greatest players of all time make one last run at the US Open title.

She made an excellent start, defeating Danka Kovinic in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

Then, Williams knocked out the number-two seed, Anett Kontaveit, booking her spot in the third round.

It was there that her tournament and career would come to an end, as she lost to Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in three sets.

Whether that was actually her final match as a professional remains to be seen…
