Roger Federer is one of the greatest tennis players of all time, and he has plenty of records to prove it.

Federer boasts an unmatched Grand Slam record, more Wimbledon titles than anyone else, and five consecutive US Open crowns.

He also holds the record for the most ATP singles titles ever, having won 103 tournaments throughout his career.

Along the way, Federer built a reputation for stopping long winning runs from some of the biggest names in tennis history.

Federer’s influence stretched across generations, and it started with his win over Sampras at Wimbledon. The American had claimed four straight titles between 1997 and 2000.

That run was halted by a 20-year-old Federer, who won their fourth-round clash in five sets. It marked a significant shift in the tennis landscape.

The Swiss legend also ended Nadal’s remarkable 81-match winning streak on clay, which spanned from 2005 to 2007.

They met again in the final of the Hamburg Masters that year, where Federer managed one of the rare victories over Nadal on clay, taking the title in three sets.

  • Ended Nadal’s 81 match winning streak on clay
  • Ended Djokovic’s 41 match winning streak in 2011
  • Ended Djokovic’s 4 year unbeaten run in China in 2014

Djokovic opened that season with a 41-match winning streak and picked up seven titles before Roland Garros. It was Federer who handed him his first defeat of the year, knocking him out in the semi-finals.

The Shanghai Masters semi-final saw Federer hand Djokovic his first loss there after four unbeaten years. It added another chapter to their rivalry and showed just how consistently Federer could disrupt even the best runs in tennis.

Whose grass court streak did Roger Federer end?

Federer didn’t just end other players’ streaks – he built plenty of his own. One of his most remarkable runs came on grass, where he won 65 straight matches from 2003 to 2008.

That stretch began at the Halle Open and included ten titles along the way, highlighted by five consecutive Wimbledon championships.

The streak finally ended in the 2008 Wimbledon final against Nadal, a match that many still consider one of the greatest ever played.

While Federer had earlier broken Nadal’s clay court run, this was Nadal’s chance to return the favour on grass.
