British No 2 Jacob Fearnley is into the quarter-finals of the HSBC Championships after a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over France’s Corentin Moutet.

The Scot took a little over two hours to get past the qualifier and is rewarded with a place in the last eight at an ATP 500 event for the first time. He will face Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka next.

Carlos Alcaraz, a winner at Queen’s in 2023, took nearly three-and-a-half hours to beat compatriot Jaume Munar, with the defending Wimbledon champion still seemingly searching for his grass-court game.

Both Alcaraz – who plays Arthur Rinderknech in the last eight – are back in action again on Friday, as is Jack Draper, who is second on the Andy Murray Arena against Brandon Nakashima.
