Jack Draper and Dan Evans will be the main attractions for British tennis fans in the men’s event of the HSBC Championships on day three.

British No 1 Draper is stepping up his preparations for Wimbledon, after ending the clay-court season with a fourth-round defeat by Alexander Bublik at the French Open. The 23-year-old, who won his opening match at Queen’s Club against Jenson Brooksby of the United States 6-3, 6-1, reached the quarter-finals last year.

Draper will face Australia’s Alexei Popyrin on Wednesday in the round of 16, having won their only previous encounter – a straight-sets victory at the Qatar Open in February.

Popyrin, who lost to Sir Andy Murray at last year’s HSBC Championships in the Scot’s final tour-level victory, overcame fellow Australian Aleksandar Vukic 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 in the round of 32 on Monday.

Dan Evans’ reward for beating Frances Tiafoe 7-5, 6-2 on Monday is an encounter with another American, Brandon Nakashima on Wednesday. The pair have met four times with Nakashima holding a 3-1 winning record against Evans. Their most recent meeting was at Queen’s Club last year when the American emerged victorious from their round of 32 encounter.

Nakashima overcame France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 in this year’s round of 32 on Tuesday.
