Emma Raducanu will have to get past the No 1 seed this afternoon if she is to reach the semi-finals of the HSBC Championships at Queen’s.

Raducanu faces Qinwen Zheng in the last eight after overcoming Rebecca Sramkova with a 6-4, 6-1 victory on Thursday.

Raducanu became Britain’s No 1 women’s player after Katie Boulter succumbed to world No 10 Diana Shnaider in three sets and the 22-year-old from Bromley cemented her ranking with a commanding victory over her Slovakian opponent Sramkova.

Raducanu – who is the last remaining Briton in the tournament after qualifier Heather Watson lost in straight sets to Elena Rybakina on Thursday – faces a stern examination of her grass-court game against Zheng, who knocked out American McCartney Kessler in three sets.

However, although China’s rising star is ranked fifth in the world and has five WTA titles to her name, she has won only four times on grass, losing on eight occasions, compared to Raducanu’s superior nine and three record on the lawns.

The pair meet for the first time on the Andy Murray Arena and you can follow live coverage on our live blog from 2pm GMT.

Shnaider is first up at 12pm against Madison Keys, of the United States, before Germany’s Tatjana Maria takes on Rybakina. After Raducanu’s match the last quarter-final is an all-American affair between Amanda Anisimova – who knocked out Britain’s Francesca Jones and Jodie Burrage earlier in the week – and Emma Navarro.
