Paula Badosa was looking to carry some momentum into the clay court season after reaching the round of 16 at the Charleston Open.
Badosa has seen her ranking drop outside the top 100 prior to the event, but she put together back-to-back wins for the first time since July 2025.
The Spaniard took down Kayla Day and Maria Sakkari before losing in straight sets to Anna Kalinskaya.
After her showing at Charleston, Badosa received a wild card entry into the inaugural WTA 250 event in Oeiras, Portugal. The tournament runs from April 15th to April 21st.
Paula Badosa receives wild card for Linz Open following Charleston
After her run at the Charleston Open, Paula Badosa has been given a wild card entry into the Linz Open, which starts on April 6 in Austria.
Badosa joins Mirra Andreeva, who also received a wild card, as well as Alexandra Eala, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Jelena Ostapenko in the field.
With only eight top-40 players in the draw, it could be an ideal opportunity for Badosa to put together another good stretch of matches.
This will be her first appearance at the Linz Open, meaning she wonât have any ranking points to defend and can play with more freedom.
Sitting just outside the top 100 at No. 102, sheâll see this as a good chance to close that gap and climb back up towards where she wants to be.
The Linz Open hit by several player withdrawals
Coming just after the exhausting Sunshine Double, several top WTA players have chosen to skip the Austrian event.
With only two days until the tournament begins, seven players have already withdrawn from the WTA 250.
Among those not taking part are Emma Raducanu, Clara Tauson, and Daria Kasatkina, all choosing to delay their return to clay a bit longer.
Even with some notable absences, the tournament will still feature Badosa and Andreeva as wild cards.
Lilli Tagger has also been handed a wild card after reaching her first WTA Tour final last season.
