The Ohio State men’s tennis program just continues to churn along.
The Buckeyes clinched their 19th straight Big Ten title before heading into the conference final on Sunday, but that didn’t slow things down. Instead, OSU won again, beating Purdue 4-2 to cap off a perfect 13-0 conference season.
The Buckeyes got off to a slow start, losing two of the three first doubles matches to concede the doubles point to Purdue. It doesn’t happen often, but OSU would have to come from behind, down 1-0 at home. But that’s OK because things were quickly evened up when Alex Bernard beat Juan David Valasquez 6-2, 6-1. Bryce Nakashima followed that up after another Purdue win with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stefan Simeunovic to even things up at 2 points apiece.
From there, OSU took the next two matches to seal the deal. Chris Li won on court five 6-4, 6-3 over Nour Fathalla, and that was followed by Jack Anthrop bouncing back after dropping his first set. He won the second set 6-1 and took the third set 6-0 over Henrik Villanger to clinch the team match.
