Novak Djokovic Reveals Why Jannik Sinner Apologized to Him After the Wimbledon Semifinal originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Novak Djokovic has had quite the dramatic run at Wimbledon this year — and not just because of the intense rallies and big-name matchups. During his quarterfinal clash with Flavio Cobolli, Novak took a nasty spill that left plenty of fans wincing and even forced him to skip a planned practice session to recover.

Fast forward to his semifinal against Jannik Sinner, and something pretty unexpected happened on court: Sinner actually apologized to Novak about that fall when the two met at the net following match point. And of course, in true Djokovic fashion, he had the classiest response that’s got everyone talking about his sportsmanship.

In the post-match interview, Djokovic was asked if he could share what Sinner apologized to him for. The 38-year-old replied saying, “He apologized for me feeling bad today. There’s nothing to apologize for from his side.”

Unfortunately for Djokovic, his run at a Grand Slam came to an end at the hands of Jannik Sinner for the second time this year.

Sinner got the better of him in straight sets in the French Open semis, and history pretty much repeated itself at Wimbledon. Crazy enough, Wimbledon used to be where Novak always had the edge over Sinner, defeating him in 2022 and 2023, but not anymore.

For a guy who’s seemed ageless for so long, it’s starting to look like time might finally be catching up with Djokovic. Those younger stars like Alcaraz and Sinner just aren’t as easy to handle these days.

With this win, Sinner now sets up another blockbuster Grand Slam final against Alcaraz just a little over a month after they went head-to-head in the French Open final. Back then, Sinner was cruising, up two sets and looking like he was about to lift that trophy, but it all slipped away and Alcaraz came out on top.

You have to wonder if that collapse will be lingering in the back of Sinner’s mind come Sunday. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be one heck of a match to watch!
