Nick Kyrgios has hit out at the BBC’s decision to not include him in this year’s Wimbledon coverage, saying it is the broadcaster’s loss more than it is his.

The Australian joined the BBC’s team last year as a commentator and pundit after he was ruled out of the tournament with a wrist injury and was a popular guest among viewers. However, his inclusion caused controversy with senior MPs after Caroline Nokes, the then Women and Equalities select committee chair, said the BBC should “hang its head in shame” for agreeing terms after he admitted to assaulting an ex-girlfriend.

Kyrgios returned to tennis this year and hoped to be fit for Wimbledon but revealed he would not be playing after suffering a “small setback” in his recovery from a knee injury that kept him out of the French Open.

The BBC is yet to officially announce its line-up for their 2025 coverage but Kyrgios has revealed that the broadcaster decided not to bring him back after last year and has questioned its apparent decision to hire American player Chris Eubanks over him.

Eubanks, 29, is ranked 108th in the world and achieved his best result in a grand slam two years ago when reaching the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.

“I know I’m a great commentator,” the 30-year-old said in an interview with The Guardian. “All I’ve done for 20 years is play, study and breathe this sport. I also think tennis needs commentators who say things that not everyone says.

“It’s unfortunate but it’s probably their loss more than mine,” Kyrgios said when asked about the BBC’s decision to not use him at Wimbledon.

“I understand they’ve got Chris Eubanks but he hasn’t beaten the greatest of all time multiple times. When someone’s beaten Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic and has incredible insights, it’s very strange you wouldn’t want that person adding knowledge to tennis fans.

”I’m sure our paths will cross again. I only ever want to add humour, some knowledge and some great atmosphere.”
