Athletes all over MetroWest and the greater Milford area are showing their skills in gyms, on courts and across tracks and fields this spring. We compiled some of the top performances from the past week and picked 12 candidates for the first Daily News Spring Athlete of the Week Poll:
Ella Chandaria, Franklin girls track and field
She won three events in a victory over Attleboro on Tuesday. Chandaria took first in the 400-meter hurdles, 100 hurdles and discus and placed second in the shot put.
Luke Dratch, Natick boys volleyball
He pushed out 58 assists to go along with three aces and a kill in a 3-2 win over defending Division 1 state champion Newton North on Thursday.
Katina Gakis & Sameera Patnala, ASMA girls tennis
The No. 1 doubles pair weathered a 7-6(5), 6-3 win over Whitinsville Christian to secure a 3-2 victory Wednesday.
Jorge Garcia Gonzalez, Westborough boys tennis
He clinched a 3-2 in over Shrewsbury on April 4 with a three-set comeback against Vedant Hota. Garcia Gonzalez fell 4-6 in the first set before rallying 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Rangers
Sophie Kopstein & Altea Mehillaj, Algonquin girls tennis
They survived a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (5) win at No. 1 doubles against Nahoba’s Emily Skaar and Audrey Russell that secured a sweep for the Titans on Wednesday.
Joe Krattenmaker, Hopkinton boys tennis
He picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles for the Hillers against Dedham on Wednesday.
Gigi Lipton, Hopkinton girls golf
The freshman earned the match medalist honors with a 45 at Westborough Golf Course in a win over Westborough on Thursday.
Mark Merlis, Holliston boys tennis
The sophomore rallied for a three set win at No. 1 singles after dropping the first set 5-7 to help the Panthers beat Dedham on Monday and already double its win total from last season.
Ryan Morin, Hopkinton boys track & field
He won both the shot put and discus in a win over Ashland on Thursday.
Zach O’Donnell, Wayland boys volleyball
He distributed 30 assists with two aces in a win over Acton-Boxborough on Tuesday.
Al Regnier, Westborough girls track & field
She won four individual events in a victory over Shrewsbury. Regnier was first in the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump for the Rangers on Wednesday.
Mateus Silva, Keefe Tech boys volleyball
He hammered home 24 kills with five aces in a win over Bay Path on Wednesday.
