Her first experience at Wimbledon didn’t last long, but Carson Branstine won over the fans on Monday.
Branstine, 24, was ranked No. 194 coming into this year’s Wimbledon Championships. She qualified for the main draw by defeating French Open semifinalist Lois Boisson, former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu and Raluca Georgiana Serban.
Even though Branstine’s full-time job is being a professional tennis player, she keeps herself busy during her days off by modeling for clothing brands. The Canadian referred to it as a “cool little side hustle.”
Make no mistake though, Branstine’s priority is tennis.
“This sport has given me everything,” Branstine said at Wimbledon. “It gave me a free college education. My best friends play tennis. I’ve gotten to see the world and travel the world, not just as a tourist, but with a purpose. And that’s something I take to heart, a lot. I really enjoy this game. It’s giving me everything and I think that’s why in some of these big moments, I was able to pull through in the last few weeks because I really enjoy being out there. It’s so much fun.”
Following Branstine’s opening-round loss to Sabalenka this past Monday, she posted a few photos on Instagram.
Branstine wanted her fans to know that she appreciated every moment at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
“Multiple first of many’s, so much love, bunches of fun, countless strawberries, and the best memories yet. See you in 365 days @wimbledon,” Branstine wrote for her caption.
Branstine’s following on Instagram has exploded over the past 24 hours. She’s already up to 53,600 followers despite entering the tournament with around 20,000.
Only time will tell if Branstine can capitalize on her newfound fame.
Next up for Branstine is the US Open. She’ll try to qualify for the final Grand Slam tournament of the year.
