Mason takes first at OTCA girls team tennis state championship

The Mason Comets are still top dogs in girls tennis, repeating as Division I team champions in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association team state tournament Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

The tournament features head-to-head team matchups with each team fielding three singles courts and two doubles courts, and is separate from the OHSAA state singles and doubles tournaments.

Mason’s win marked its ninth-consecutive victory in the OTCA tournament. The Comets claimed the title after beating Upper Arlington in the semifinals and Magnificat in the finals.

Mason's Addison Cassidy propelled the Comets to their ninth consecutive OTCA Division I team state championship, winning her first singles final 6-0, 6-2.

In the semfinal match against Upper Arlington, a rematch of both the 2023 and 2024 finals, Mason dropped just two games before the contest was decided. Senior Addison Cassidy won her first singles matchup 6-0, 6-2, while junior Emma Wagner and senior Adriana Moreno swept their second and third singles competition 6-0, 6-0. With the match already decided, neither doubles match was completed.

In the finals against Magnificat, it was more of the same. Another 3-0 rout for the Comets finished off the tournament with Mason on top.

Mason wins the tournament just one day after fielding seven athletes in the second day of the OHSAA state singles and doubles championship. In doubles, Adriana Moreno and Saanvi Reddy won the state Division I doubles crown after defeating fellow Comets Pratyusha Chaudhuri and Emma Wagner in the finals. Mason sophomores Vanmayi Podili and Bhavana Singidi finished in fourth place in doubles, while senior Addison Cassidy took fourth place in the singles competition.

Mason was able to run it back this season after returning its top seven players from a year ago, but with four seniors set to graduate it will be a reloading season for the Comets in 2026. Mason has proven capable of refreshing year after year, and should certainly be a favorite to notch its 10th straight title next season.

Indian Hill's Sophia Thompson led the Braves to a top four finish at the OTCA team state tournament Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025. The Braves had won the past two OTCA championships,

In Division II Indian Hill represented the southwest district in the final four of the OTCA tournament, but a hard-fought semifinal match against Columbus Academy went the way of the Vikings in a 3-1 win.

Indian Hill senior Sophia Thompson, the OHSAA Division II state singles runner-up, won her match 6-1, 6-0 to give the Braves the lead. Both the Indian Hill first doubles team of Grace Nguyen and Grace Perry and second doubles team of Reese Hazen and Genevieve Chasar fell to the Vikings, and Elle Mikula came up just short in her second singles match to decide the match. Ayla Daoud had the lead in her third singles match before it was called off.

Indian Hill had won the past two OTCA championships, but stiff competition prevented a third. Still, in the first season under new head coach Brian Schubert, perennial power Indian Hill posted another strong season. Daoud, Nguyen, and Thompson all graduate after this season, leaving opportunities for underclassmen to step into bigger roles in 2026.
