Jim Courier is puzzled by Jannik Sinner’s Indian Wells Nike kit

Tennis Channel commentator and former ATP player Jim Courier took a few minutes of his broadcast time on Friday night to talk about Jannik Sinner’s Indian Wells Nike kit.

Jannik Sinner‘s Nike kits have been under a lot of scrutiny in recent months because of the unique color combinations he has been wearing. He recently said that though he thought Nike was doing a good job, he and his team would have more input into the colors and styles in the future.

It is not clear if Indian Wells is the beginning of that collaborative effort because Sinner’s color combination is extremely different than in recent months. Many love the pink and white combo with the pink Nike sneakers, but Courier still had one criticism.

What Jim Courier said

Courier described his own skin tone as very similar to Sinner’s. It is true both are red headed and fair skinned. Jim Courier said he did not like the colors Sinner wore at the Australian Open. Though the pink is an improvement, it is not the most flattering shade for a person with pasty skin.

Jim Courier is not wrong, but the truth is the pink looks so much better on Sinner. Before Indian Wells, he wore colors that some compared to food condiments.

It seems like Naomi Osaka continues to get the best kits from Nike; her custom leopard print kit and sneakers were a hit.

Not even WTA World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka or ATP World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz get the same customization as Osaka does.

The Nike tennis strategy has long been baffling. With popular players like Taylor Fritz, Jack Draper, Frances Tiafoe, and most recently Emma Raducanu leaving the brand, it seems like a good time to reevaluate and invest in the other stars stil with the brand including Sabalenka, Alcaraz, Sinner, Amanda Anisimova, Mirra Andreeva, Alex Eala, and Madison Keys.
