Sinner continues dominance over Zverev to reach Monte-Carlo Final

Jannik Sinner extended his winning streak against Alexander Zverev to nine matches, booking his place in the Monte-Carlo Masters final.

The Italian’s dominant run continued as he saw off Zverev in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, leaving the German searching for answers once again.

Sinner will face either Carlos Alcaraz or Valentin Vacherot in Sunday’s final and has a chance to become world number one if he lifts the trophy.

In defeating Zverev, Sinner achieved a feat that no other player has managed since official records began.

Sinner raises the bar again in Monte-Carlo with a new record

Sinner was locked in from the opening serve, taking control early and never giving Zverev a chance to settle.

He recorded a Tennis Insights score of 9.64, which stands as the highest performance rating on clay since their records started in 2022.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Jamie Murray said: “Flawless performance from start to finish.

“So good. Complete domination there. Zverev was on the ropes from the first ball to the last. Incredible performance, especially on the forehand. Winners galore flying off his racket.

“That’s a statement performance and he will be very much looking forward to the final. You can’t blame him. Sinner’s serve got better and better as the match went on.

“He only lost two points on serve in the second set. When he’s serving that high a percentage, you get so many opportunities to be in control of the set. Zverev disappointing on the second serve return.

“He didn’t punish Sinner when he had the opportunities early in the match. 16 forehand winners from Jannik.

“20 forced errors he got out of Zverev and a total domination on the baseline, but you can see that as the points developed. He was the aggressor, the one dictating play. Zverev didn’t have an answer.”

Zverev was not able to take advantage when Sinner offered up any chances early on. The German hasn’t beaten Sinner since their five-set battle at the 2023 US Open quarterfinals, and Saturday’s contest never looked like breaking that streak.

Jannik Sinner levels Andy Murray’s record with Monte-Carlo Win

Sinner has now reached the final in eight different Masters 1000 events, joining an elite group of players to have done so.

The ‘Big Three’—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic—all made it to every Masters event final during their careers.

Sinner has now joined Andy Murray, who also reached eight different Masters 1000 event finals in his glittering career.

The only Masters 1000 event final that Sinner has not played is now the Madrid Open, with the star’s best effort being a quarter-final appearance in 2024.
