Charleston Open: Iva Jovic Reaches WTA Semi-final Again

In her first clay court event of the season, the young American has taken to the surface well and backed up that early potential with some solid performances.

Iva took down Anna Kalinskaya in the Charleston quarter-final. She also notched up wins over Sofia Kenin and Alycia Parks earlier in the tournament.

Speaking to The Tennis Channel, Jovic mentioned that her focus shifts straight to the next match once she’s done playing.

After getting past Kalinskaya in Charleston, she didn’t waste any time and headed back out to practise ahead of her semi-final meeting with Jessica Pegula.

Jovic added that this routine goes all the way back to when she first picked up a racket as a child.

“I always go out to practice afterwards, it’s something I’ve been doing my entire career. We work on what could have been done better and what I’ll need in the next round.”

It speaks volumes about Jovic’s mindset and gives a glimpse into why many believe she has the potential for a long and successful career at the top level.

Iva Jovic’s rise in the rankings following Charleston

Jovic’s strong run of form continued in Charleston, building on an already impressive start to the year that included a Grand Slam quarter-final appearance at the Australian Open.

Her 18 wins this season have pushed her up into the WTA top 20, where she now sits at world number 16.

A title win in Charleston would move her into the top 15, overtaking Naomi Osaka in the process.

Jovic recently moved past Madison Keys to become the fourth-highest-ranked American on tour. She now trails only Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova and Jessica Pegula among U.S. players.
