Most dads would go for front-row seats watching their daughter Iga chase her sixth Grand Slam from their living room. Not Tomasz Swiatek. While Iga battles it out on the biggest stages in tennis, he’s back home in Poland, feet up, remote in hand, heart racing with every point. It’s not about distance, it’s about knowing when to step back so your kid can step up.
But make no mistake, he helped build this. Iga Swiatek was born in Warsaw on May 31, 2001, to Tomasz and Dorota Swiatek. Tomasz knew competition. He represented Poland as a rower in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Dorota, an orthodontist, quietly became the financial backbone behind Iga’s early tennis career, funding lessons through her dental clinic.
This wasn’t a family new to the court. Iga’s older sister, Agata, also connected to the racket professionally, reaching the ITF level. Injuries ended her career early, but she’s since become a dentist, following in their mother’s footsteps.
The Swiatek family didn’t just support from the sidelines. They made sacrifices. They worked around money troubles. They shaped Iga’s grit long before fans noticed her forehand.
But their support hasn’t always been visible. Agata shows up. She was there during Iga’s 2022 French Open win and again during the 2024 third-round victory over Marie Bouzkova. She FaceTimes Iga after big matches. That bond runs strong.
Dorota, though, keeps away. According to Polityka, she “disappeared” after a divorce during Iga’s teen years. The report says both daughters stayed with Tomasz, and Dorota’s contact with Iga “was cut off.”
Tomasz also keeps his distance, but on purpose. He chooses to watch from home, not from the stands. In a quote shared by TVP Sport, he explained, “Watching live is very demanding. Every look or gesture is noticed by Iga.”
So he cheers from the couch, knowing silence sometimes speaks louder than presence.
