Iga Swiatek given advice on who to appoint as her new coach following Wim Fissette departure

Iga Swiatek appears to be searching for a new coach following her split with Wim Fissette.

Fissette began working with Swiatek in December and played a role in her run to the Madrid Open final, where she lost to Elena Rybakina.

With Fissette’s departure now official, attention turns to who might step into the role. Former player Andrea Petkovic has suggested Piotr Wozniacki, father of former world number one Caroline Wozniacki, as an interesting candidate.

Speaking on The Big T Podcast, Petkovic said: “Honestly I think it would be kind of a good fit. I think Piotr (Wozniacki) was underestimated as a coach.

“I spent 10 days training with Caroline in New York and I was so surprised how good a coach he is.”

Swiatek hasn’t rushed into naming a new coach after Fissette’s departure, choosing instead to take her time with the decision, and her careful approach seems to have worked out well.

This season has seen Swiatek win four titles – two at WTA 1000 level, plus another Grand Slam. That gives her five major titles overall, putting her second among active players behind Naomi Osaka’s six.

The Polish star has also reclaimed the top spot in the WTA rankings during the clay-court season and has added nearly $6 million to her career earnings this year alone. She continues to show why many consider her the best in the game right now.

While Swiatek has time to consider her next coaching move, the clay-court season is just around the corner—a period where she’s expected to perform well.

There isn’t much time before play begins in Charleston, and it’s unclear whether she’ll have a new coach in place by then. Petkovic told The Big T Podcast:

That tournament is quickly followed by events in Linz and Stuttgart, with Swiatek already confirmed for Stuttgart. There’s a chance she could have someone new in her corner by then, as it starts mid-April.

Although she has Grand Slam wins on all three surfaces—clay, grass, and hard court—four of her major titles have come on clay.

The 24-year-old lifted the trophy three times in a row from 2022 to 2024 after first winning it back in 2020.
