Iga Swiatek’s long-standing partnership with Wim Fissette ended last week, marking a significant change in her coaching setup.

The six-time Grand Slam winner found success early with Fissette, claiming three WTA titles together, including the 2025 Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles crown. But her form has since faded this year, and she hasn’t managed to add to that tally in 2026.

Announcing the split on Instagram, Swiatek admitted feeling “bitterness” over her recent results and said she felt it was time to “take a different path.”

She’s now spoken publicly for the first time since parting ways with Fissette, offering more detail about their final conversations before he left.

Swiatek explained to Sport.pl: “This is a matter between us. I don’t want to go into details. It’s certainly not something someone like me decides to do after one failure.

“I wouldn’t make such a decision hastily. Sometimes you can see me as an emotional person, but I really don’t make decisions impulsively. I’m quite rational. I like to give myself time to make a decision.

“Besides, I don’t make many changes to the team. I think it’s a very good approach. I like to give the team the opportunity to ‘reset’ ourselves and start working a little differently.

“However, in this case, I felt that it was simply time for a change. Yes, it was not a decision made in Miami – it was a longer process in which I thought everything through carefully.

“During the tournament in Doha, I realized that I don’t feel as good on the court as before,” she continued.

“Of course, at different tournaments there may be different reasons for a worse disposition – sometimes I just know that I was not focused that day, sometimes the forehand failed me, sometimes something else.”

Asked what qualities she looks for in an ideal coach, Swiatek said: “Good question, although you should not judge a person only from this angle.”

“The ideal coach should have very good skills,” she continued.

“‘Eye’ to the game. Sensing what a player needs – in the short and long term.

Could Amanda Anisimova be Wim Fissette’s next coaching move?

Wim Fissette has built a reputation working with several top names on the WTA Tour, including Kim Clijsters, Naomi Osaka, and Iga Swiatek.

Amanda Anisimova is currently without a coach following her split from Hendrik Vleeshouwers earlier this week. She is coming off a 2025 campaign where she reached the Wimbledon semifinals and the US Open quarterfinals but failed to add to her lone WTA title.

Anisimova did make an appearance at the Australian Open but fell in straight sets to Aryna Sabalenka in round one. Now 24 years old, she seems to be entering a crucial stage of her career.

She climbed as high as world No. 8 at one point and finished last year ranked No. 18 – not far off her career best. With Fissette’s experience, it could be an interesting match if they decide to team up.
