Buffalo-native Jessica Pegula is competing in a US Open quarterfinals match Tuesday, Sept. 2 after defeating all four of her tournament opponents in straight sets.
The No. 4 seed will go head-to-head against Barbora Krejčíková after beating Ann Li — 6-1, 6-2 — in less than an hour on Sunday and has only lost 17 games in the tournament so far.
“Compared to last year, it’s been a complete 180 with how I’ve felt,” Pegula said during Sunday’s post-match press conference. “But after, I think, working my way into these matches and having some good, convincing wins, I mean, that’s always going to give myself some confidence.”
In last year’s tournament, Pegula made it to her first Grand Slam final but ultimately lost to Aryna Sabalenka.
