Dunlap and Metamora added to their Class 1A boys tennis sectional plaque collections on Saturday.

The Eagles won their own sectional — their eighth in a row — while Metamora claimed its seventh consecutive sectional title by beating the field at LaSalle-Peru. Both will send six athletes to the state finals next Thursday at Palatine High School.

The doubles victory from Alex Fei and Ethan McRaven (29-0) as well as the runner-up finish by Ethan Klemens and William Song (20-2) helped Dunlap (33 points) outdistance itself from second-place Richwoods (22 points). Andrew Choy (singles runner-up, 21-10) and Harmin Patel (singles fourth-place finisher, 17-4) will also head to state.

Richwoods freshman Daniel Nathan (24-1) was the singles champion. He beat Choy, 6-4, 6-0 in the finals after a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Patel. Nathan is looking to become the first Knights singles medalist since Chase Klaus finished seventh in 2008.

East Peoria senior Connor Watson (singles, 22-4) along with Macomb sophomores Alec and Marc Simmons (doubles, 17-4) and Peoria Christian juniors Ian Durst and Samuel Loeb (doubles, 16-10) round out the Peoria-area qualifiers at Dunlap.

On the strength of Metamora’s doubles teams, the Redbirds (23 points) beat out host L-P (10 points). Tommy Sopko and Adam Culp (29-5) beat teammates Weston Lange and Jack Hessing (20-4) in the finals, 6-1, 6-2.

Junior Dane Hutchinson (21-10) took down teammate and freshman Hunter Poole (19-6), 6-3, 6-2 in the third-place singles match.

L-P senior Nick Olivero (22-10) was the singles runner-up with Princeton advancing its doubles team of Jackson Mason and Asa Gartin (24-3) on to state.
