On Wednesday, Gonzalez posted an Instagram Story showing her hand holding Dimitrov’s as they walked together. The simple yet touching photo was paired with the caption:

“Just a reminder that this cutie would be playing QF today and probably winning it too ly.”

Though Gonzalez later deleted the Story, a fan shared a screenshot on X, keeping the moment alive for supporters who missed it.

The post came as many tennis fans are still talking about Dimitrov’s dramatic exit from Wimbledon this week. On Monday, the 34-year-old was in the middle of a thrilling fourth-round match against world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.

Dimitrov had won the first two sets and looked on track for a major upset. But in the third set, he suddenly fell to the grass, clutching his chest and shoulder.

Medical staff quickly attended to Dimitrov. Despite trying to continue, he was forced to retire from the match due to severe pain. The Wimbledon crowd gave him a loud ovation as he left the court, visibly upset. Sinner, showing sportsmanship, helped carry Dimitrov’s bags to the locker room.

Gonzalez publicly expressed pride in Dimitrov shortly after his retirement. She shared another Instagram Story with a photo of Dimitrov and a loving message:

Though Dimitrov’s Wimbledon run ended early, his team confirmed he suffered a partial tear in his pectoral muscle. His manager, Georgi Stoimenov, shared that while Dimitrov will miss a few upcoming tournaments, including events in Sweden, Toronto and Cincinnati, he’s aiming to recover in time for the US Open starting on August 24, per Bulgarian outlet Tenniskafe.

Dimitrov, who has been one of Bulgaria’s top sports stars for over a decade, has faced several injuries in recent years, making this latest setback especially tough. Despite his disappointment, the tennis world continues to support him, with Sinner calling him an “incredible player” and “a good friend.”

Meanwhile, Gonzalez’s steady encouragement seems to be lifting Dimitrov’s spirits, as fans continue to hope he’ll return strong for the final Grand Slam of the season.
