WIAA State Championships
MADISON – Vivie Auth and Adel Schneider of St. Mary Catholic won their second consecutive Division 2 state doubles title at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
Auth and Schneider defeated Ava Miller and Parker Van Dusen of Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic 6-2, 6-1 in the championship match. The SMC duo had defeated Katie Kohls and Olivia Johnson of Edgewood 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals.
Auth, a sophomore, and Schneider, a senior, improved their season record to 28-0 heading into the WIAA state team tennis tournament next weekend in Madison.
The SMC duo has a 59-0 record since pairing together for doubles at the state of last season.
Sasha Quandt of Oshkosh Lourdes took second place in Division 2 singles. Susanna Hundt of Chesterton Academy defeated Quandt 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 in the title match.
Lexie Hankel of West De Pere took third place in Division 1 singles.
McKenna Thorson of Verona defeated Hankel 7-6 (8), 6-3 in the semifinals. Hankel came back to beat Angela Wang of University School of Milwaukee 6-1, 6-2 in the third-place match.
Caroline Raster of Brookfield East won the D1 singles title with a 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 win over Thorson in the championship match.
Ana Cristescu and Maria Cristescu of De Pere took third place in Division 1 doubles.
The Cristescu sisters defeated Clare Schaefer and Charlotte Jelenchick of Whitefish Bay 6-4, 6-2 in the third-place match after losing to Sarah Neubert and Isabella Heidenberger of Arrowhead 6-3, 6-7 (2), 10-5 in the semifinals.
Neenah’s doubles team of Sydney Michalkiewicz and Rebekah Thomas took fifth place in Division 1. They defeated Charlotte Meyer and Peyton Williams of Elkhorn 2-6, 7-6 (6), 11-9 in the fifth-place match.
Lizzie Stuckslager and Amelia Stuckslager of Divine Savior Holy Angels won the Division 1 doubles title with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Neubert and Heidenberger.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
NEW Lutheran Tournament
GREEN BAY – NEW Lutheran finished with a 3-2 record at its own tournament.
In pool play, the Blazers beat Algoma 25-14, 25-17. Florence beat NEW Lutheran 25-17, 21-25, 16-14 and Manitowoc Lutheran beat the Blazers 25-18, 25-14.
In the Silver Bracket, the Blazers beat Crivitz 25-11, 25-13 and beat Kewaunee 11-25, 25-19, 15-12.
Kiley Dhein had 29 kills, 13 aces and 42 digs. Sydney Steffel had 22 kills, 11 aces and 33 digs. Kiera Adams-McIntosh had 91 kills and 15 digs, Paige Loock had 25 kills and seven aces, Jaden Schmidt had 32 digs, and Olivia Kirchner had 86 assists and 19 digs.
Crivitz finished with a 1-3 record with its victory coming against Peshtigo.
Hattie Frievalt had 36 assists and 17 digs. Izzy Wesoloski had 14 digs, Kiya Brand had 23 digs and nine kills, Marli Meyers had 20 kills and 14 digs, Brecken Ott had 13 kills and 14 digs, and Peyton Rehberg had 10 kills and 12 digs.
