Girls tennis roundup: Willmar earns a road win

Sep. 25—SARTELL — The Willmar girls tennis team Willmar improved to 3-6 in the Central Lakes Conference with a 4-3 victory Thursday against Sartell.

The Cardinals split singles play, with Kennedy Mara and Emily Floren winning at Nos. 1 and 2 singles. Floren defeated the Sabres’ Reagan Anderson, 7-6 (5), 6-3).

Norah Nesges and Bryn Behr added a Cardinals’ win at No. 1 doubles. Melanie Rhoda and Leiah Arends picked up the victory at No. 3 doubles.

Willmar heads to Marshall for a non-conference match at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Montevideo had two close calls in its victory at Melrose.

At No. 2 singles, the Thunder Hawks’ Avery Albrecht beat the Dutchmen’s Rachel Welle 7-5, 6-7 (5), 10-8. And at No. 3 doubles, Ava Spray and Gabrielle Augeson knocked off Molly Rue and Brinley Ritter, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.

Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd improved its won-lost record to 9-8 with the victory over the Mainstreeters at Madison.

LQPV/DB swept singles play and got a victory from Molly Halvorson and Camryn Olesen at No. 1 doubles. The duo beat Keely Klein and Abi Anderson-Nyhus 7-5, 6-4.
