Sep. 29—LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield girls tennis team lost a non-conference match with one of the top teams in the state Monday.
The Dragons fell to Foley 5-2.
Foley is ranked fifth in the state Class A coaches’ association poll. Litchfield is fourth.
Monday, the Falcons earned victories at Nos. 2-3 singles and swept the doubles from the Dragons.
Litchfield’s Isla Dille won at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 over Olivia Sauer. Dille is ranked fourth in Class A.
Tayah Damerow also won at No. 4 singles for the Dragons, beating Rory Keating 6-1, 6-2.
All three doubles matches were close. At No. 1, the Falcons’ Ashlyn Gapinski and Jaida Fleck beat Elly Woelfel and Marcella Bruning 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. And at No. 2, Foley’s Hailey Mellgren and Abby Kampa edged Brynn Nagel and Elise Carlson 4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-4.
Litchfield plays Staples-Motley at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Staples.
