Oct. 9—ST. PETER — The Litchfield girls tennis team has a singles player and both of its doubles teams moving into the Section 5A individual semifinals Thursday.
Emma Wuotila, a junior who plays No. 3 singles, has advanced, as has the doubles teams of Isla Dille and Molly Patten and Elly Woelfel and Marcella Bruning for the Section 5A individual semifinals at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Gustavus Adolphus College’s Swanson Tennis Center.
Wuotila opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Belle Plaine’s Cora Rosenwinkel and went on to earn a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Holy Family Catholic’s Grace Timmers in the second round. She will face Le Sueur-Henderson’s Sallie Nesbit in the semifinals.
Dille and Patten are a pair of juniors who play Nos. 1 and 2 singles. The duo had a first-round bye before knocking off Glencoe-Silver Lake’s Aby Smith and Addison Nott 6-1, 6-0. They will face Sibley East’s Ady Beneke and Tessa McCracken.
Woelfel and Bruning are a senior and sophomore who played No. 1 doubles in the Dragons’ run to the Section 5A team championship. They started off with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Sibley East’s Addie Cowell and Kylah Olson before beating Le Sueur-Henderson’s Kiandra Straub and Ava Becker 6-1, 6-3. The pairing next plays Belle Plaine’s Nina Messer and Ella Thorstad.
