Genie Bouchard reviews the Indian Wells ‘Drop Shot’ signature cocktail

It is five o’clock somewhere, right? That was retired WTA player and current Tennis Channel contributor Genie Bouchard’s theory as she sampled the Indian Wells signature cocktail called the Drop Shot.

This is just the second year that the Drop Shot has been available at Indian Wells. The tournament is trying to capitalize on the US Open’s resounding success with its Honey Deuce signature cocktail.

Bouchard, 32, shared her impressions of the cocktail, a pineapple-flavored tequila concotion sold for $23 in a souvenir cup, via social media.

What Genie Bouchard said

She reported that the initial taste had a strong tequila flavor and limited pineapple taste.

The video cut off after a couple of tequila-filled sips, but she wrote later that she does recommend the Drop Shot.

At $23 a pop, it is a luxury buy. Though that price is considered cheap compared to the $27 Honey Deuce that fans wait in extremely long lines to purchase en mass at the US Open in New York.

Bouchard is thriving in retirement

Genie Bouchard had a sentimental swan song in Canada last fall.

She does Tennis Channel broadcasting work. Bouchard has also pursued a professional pickleball career, a move that former ATP players Jack Sock and Sam Querrey have also made.

Bouchard’s career year was 2014 when she peaked at WTA World No. 5 after Australian Open and French Open semifinal finishes and an appearance in the Wimbledon final.
