Frances Tiafoe has enjoyed a fine career on the ATP Tour, most recently enjoying a lengthy stay at the Miami Open.

But trophies have been hard to come by for the American in recent times, with Tiafoe last clinching a title in 2023.

He emerged victorious at both Houston and Stuttgart back then, claiming his other career title at Delray Beach in 2018.

That lack of success has resulted in a drop in the ATP rankings, with the current world number 20 having once climbed as high as world number 10.

But throughout that time he has been able to rely on the support of his longtime partner Ayan Broomfield, who Tiafoe has now shared his admiration for.

Frances Tiafoe jokes about his girlfriend’s advice like Serena Williams

As quoted by the ATP website, Tiafoe joked about Broomfield: “Ayan was nice, but then they almost forget.

“They get amnesia and forget how nice they were, start giving you advice like you was damn near Serena [Williams].

“But seriously, it’s nice to come home and vent and be like, ‘Man, the match, what do you think?’ Because it’s hard.

“This sport, it’s hard to really understand it if you’re not really in it. And obviously the lifestyle. So she’s been critical not only for my career, but for my life.

“She’s so solid. She’s been there for me for so many years, and happy to have her, very important.”

Frances Tiafoe grateful for Ayan Broomfield’s support

Broomfield has a close connection to the sport, claiming the 2019 NCAA women’s doubles title as a student-athlete at UCLA.

She also reached 680 in the WTA rankings, with Tiafoe adding of his girlfriend: “The key to a very successful man, I think it’s a lot of things.

“But I think number one is a strong woman in your corner.

“A lot of times, it’ll just ground you… and I think a lot of times, when you don’t have that because you’re all over the map, they can be detail-oriented, they kind of paint the picture for you, help guide you to somewhere you’re trying to go.

“Sometimes they believe in you more than you believe in yourself. And that’s helped me a lot, so shout out to her.”

They are certainly heartfelt words from Tiafoe, who is clearly grateful for all the love and support he has received from Broomfield over the years.

Of course, tennis couples are common, with Alex de Minaur engaged to Katie Boulter and Gael Monfils married to Elina Svitolina.

Also married are Madison Keys and her coach Bjorn Fratangelo, and tennis legends Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf.
