Iga Świątek is on the lookout for a new coach after parting ways with Wim Fissette earlier this week.

Despite winning the 2025 Wimbledon Ladies Singles title under his guidance, there’s been talk that Iga may have wasted a year and a half working with Fissette.

Her form has taken a noticeable dip at the start of this year, and she’ll be hoping to turn things around on clay in the next couple of months.

Swiatek hasn’t won any titles this season [apart from the United Cup], and after her second-round loss to Magda Linette at the Miami Open, she described it as her “worst nightmare.”

Emma Raducanu’s coach, Mark Petchey, has weighed in on Swiatek’s decision to move on from Wim Fissette:

Mark Petchey says Iga Swiatek’s serve was a ‘big problem’

“I don’t think it was a huge shock,” Petchey said on the Big T podcast. “I had heard rumblings after Australia that maybe they were going to go their separate ways.

“For me the two big ones were that I think the serve was a big problem for her.

“They went through a few technical changes and if I’m being honest it looked like it was a bit more mechanical by the time we saw the finished product here, it looked like she was struggling to generate some pace on the second serve.

“And when your serve is not firing it really does affect the rest of your game. You feel under pressure right from the start of the rally when you feel you should be on top of it.

“Wim is an amazing coach but sometimes you can’t know everything and sometimes you try something when it comes to a stroke and actually it could be one of those cases where you think in theory it’s going to be better, but in reality in turns out worse.

Iga Swiatek’s 2026 season so far

So far in 2026, Swiatek has taken part in eight tournaments. She reached the final of Indian Wells, where she lost to Naomi Osaka, who has been having an outstanding year since coming back from maternity leave.

The Pole also reached two quarterfinals – one at Adelaide International 1 and another at WTA Dubai – while also making Round Four appearances at both Abu Dhabi and Brisbane International 1.

Where Fissette might end up next

Fissette is among the most seasoned coaches in the sport, having worked with some of the biggest names in women’s tennis.

The Belgian first made his name with Kim Clijsters, helping her win three of her four Grand Slam titles during their time together.

He has also guided both Angelique Kerber and Naomi Osaka to major success, further adding to his reputation as a top-tier coach.

The most high-profile vacancy at the moment is with Carlos Alcaraz, who split from long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero late last year.

However, Fissette has never coached on the ATP Tour, making that move seem unlikely at this stage.
