Elena Rybakina signs up for tennis tournament alongside Bundesliga goalkeeper

The Stuttgart Open has announced its very own ‘One Point Challenge’ following the success of the One Point Slam at the Australian Open.

The Australian Open one-point tournament saw the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner compete against amateur tennis players, with $1 million prize money on the line.

Amateur star Jordan Smith won the event, which was widely received as a resounding success for the Australian Grand Slam.

Following its success, the Stuttgart Open are set to introduce their very own version of the tournament and a professional footballer has signed up for the event.

The Stuttgart One Point Challenge announces three new names

Elena Rybakina and Laura Siegemund have become the first two tennis players to sign up for the Stuttgart Open’s One Point Challenge.

Rybakina is a previous winner of the Women’s Stuttgart Open, having lifted the trophy in 2024 by defeating Marta Kostyuk in the final.

They will be remarkably joined by German professional footballer Fabian Bredlow, who is still plying his trade in the Bundesliga.

Bredlow currently plays for Stuttgart, having started his career at RB Leipzig and also played for 1. FC Nürnberg.

The event takes place on April 13, that is the same day as the main draw is expected to begin at the German tournament.

Who is playing the Women’s Stuttgart Open?

Some of the biggest names on the WTA Tour have signed up to play at the Women’s Stuttgart Open in April.

All of the top five have signed on to play the clay court event, as well as three more members of the WTA Tour top 10.

They will be joined by Eva Lys, Noma Noha Akugue, Ella Seidel, and Siegemund, who have all received a wild card.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejčiková will also play the event, having entered on a protected ranking.
