Lincoln-Sudbury boys volleyball player Avery Remley was voted the Daily News Athlete of the Week for May 2-8. He led the Warriors with 17 kills, a block and an ace in a win over Westford Academy on May 2.
Remley garnered 58.36 percent of the nearly 4,000 votes case. He beat out Hopkinton boys tennis’ Joe Krattenmaker (23.63 percent).
Now we’ll turn our attention to this week’s action and the nominees from May 9-15. Here are the candidates (pulled from submissions to our score reporting form, through social media and by email):
Sophie Charbonneau, Hudson girls tennis
She led the Hawks to a win over Shepherd Hill with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Lily Durda at No. 1 singles Monday.
May Chen, Hopkinton girls tennis
She rallied for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against Medway on Tuesday after trailing 4-1 in the third set.
Eben Consigli, Nipmuc boys track & field
He won the discus with a throw of 166-8 on Saturday at the MSTCA Coaches South Shore Invitational.
Dylan Engelhardt, Wayland boys volleyball
He hammered home 25 kills and had five blocks May 9 in a 3-2 win over Boston Latin that clinched the Dual County League championship.
Deniz Eryilmaz, Wellesley boys tennis
He a 6-0, 7-5 (7-4) win at No. 2 singles for the Raiders against Braintree on Thursday. Eryilmaz added a doubles win with Eric Zhang against Weston on Tuesday.
Olivia Fong, Millis girls tennis
She put up a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles over Walpole on Thursday to help Millis (10-5) win its seventh match in a row. Fong also prevailed 6-1, 6-2 against Fontbonne on Wednesday. She won 6-1, 6-0 against Blackstone-Millville on Tuesday.
Jorge Garcia Gonzalez, Westborough boys tennis
He led the charge for the Rangers with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles in a rematch of the last two Division 2 state championship matchups against Duxbury on Wednesday. Gonzalez also bested Sabir Sethi of St. John’s on May 9.
Jordan Hlawek & Subash Pallothu, Westborough boys tennis
They led the way at No. 1 doubles in a 3-2 win over St. John’s with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jonathan Wang and Javan Premraj on May 9.
Cameron Getman, Julia Lenfest & Riley Restic, Nipmuc girls track & field
They won two events each and helped the Warriors win the Dual Valley Conference team title Tuesday. Getman was first in the shot put (30-11.75) and discus (103-4). Lenfest won the 100-meter hurdles (16.8) and 200 (27.73). Restic placed first in the 100 (13.23) and 400 hurdles (1:08.41).
Ilian Glace, Hopkinton boys tennis
He weathered a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles for the Hillers against Westwood on Thursday to keep Hopkinton unbeaten.
Josie Hopkins, Hopkinton girls track & field
She won three events in a victory over Dedham on Tuesday that extended the Hillers’ dual meet win streak that dates back to 2001. Hopkins was first in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump and 200.
Gabrielle Pierre, Lincoln-Sudbury girls track & field
The Florida commit placed first in both the tiple jump and long jump at the MSTCA Metro Coaches Invitational on Saturday. She cleared 41-8.5 in the triple jump and 18-2.5 in the long jump.
Calebe Pereira, Marlborough boys volleyball
He racked up 141 assists in four wins over the week. That included 40 to beat Minnechaug on May 9, a whopping 50 in a win over Wachusett on Monday, 25 against Framingham on Wednesday, 26 against Keefe Tech on Thursday.
Nami Raja, Holliston girls tennis
She clinched a win over Dedham on Wednesday with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles for the Panthers.
Benjamin Stone, Hopedale boys track & field
He won two events at the Dual Valley Conference Championships on Tuesday. Stone placed first in the mile (4 minutes, 56.41 seconds) and two-mile (10:32.69) and led the Blue Raiders to a third-place finish.
Connor Teague, Holliston boys track and field
He won the triple jump at the MSTCA Coaches Metro Invitational on Saturday, clearing 45 feet, 3 inches.
Olivia Todd, Wayland girls tennis
She ed the charge for the Warriors with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Camille Bradley at No. 3 singles against Bromfield on Monday.
