The tennis world is about to enter its prime season, with three Grand Slam tournaments set to take place over the summer, with Wimbledon, the French Open and the U.S. Open.

Coco Gauff, arguably the best female American player, has been dominant at times, winning at the 2023 US Open and 2025 French Open. But she’s been up and down as of late.

There’s growing concern about her physical and mental state, according to tennis legend Andy Roddick.

“Seeing Coco retire isn’t a good sign. She’s not someone who usually withdraws mid-match. She doesn’t typically suffer in her strokes; instead, she channels that pressure and comes back stronger the following week,” Roddick said.

“She’s perhaps one of the most professional players I’ve ever seen at her age, which means we should really be worried about this whole arm situation. I hope it’s nothing.”

Gauff is about two weeks removed from having to retire in the middle of a match at Indian Wells due to a left arm injury. She will be making her return at the Miami Open this week.

The Miami Open is considered her home tournament. She revealed that she’s healthy enough to play.

“I think if it wasn’t Miami I would probably skip this tournament. But the fact that it is, I really wanted to play here.”

Gauff isn’t 100 percent, which is concerning.

Hopefully, she won’t suffer any serious setbacks during the tournament many consider to be the “fifth” Grand Slam.
