Coco Gauff status for Miami Open is seemingly revealed on tournament website

Tennis fans have been worried about Coco Gauff since she was forced to retire from her Indian Wells match against Alex Eala on March 8 with shooting pains in her arm.

Gauff was scheduled to get an MRI on March 9. She shared that news on social media and indicated that people were telling her it could be nerve related.

Nerve-related pain in the arm for a tennis player sounds scary and potentially involves skipping tournaments to heal and recover. For this reason, fans have been curious if Gauff would play in the Miami Open, her home tournament.

What Miami Open website says about Coco Gauff

To begin with, Gauff is in the tournament draw. She has not withdrawn. Whatever the issue is, she has been dealing with it for a week and likely would have withdrawn by now if she felt she could not compete.

The more telling sign is that she is on the Miami Open practice schedule three times for Monday, March 16. The first is on Court 13 at 10 AM, then at 11 AM with Janice Tjen on the Stadium Court, and finally at 2 PM again with Tjen on Court 22.

What it means

Being in the draw and on the practice schedule are strong signs that Gauff intends to play. There is always the possibility that after practice, she may realize she is not ready and withdraw.

Because of her ranking, Gauff has a first round bye which would mean her opening match would be either Thursday, March 19 or Friday, March 20.

Coco Gauff celebrates a point in the first set of her third-round match against Alexandra Eala at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif., Sunday, March 8, 2026.

That gives Gauff a few more days of practice. If we hear nothing from her early in the week, we can assume no news is good news, and she will play.
