Eala has enjoyed a sudden rise up the rankings over the past year, which all started after her run to the Miami Open semifinals last year.

She has gone from strength to strength since then, with Eala consistently supported by Filipino fans at every tournament she plays at.

Coco Gauff is one of the most popular players on the WTA Tour, but even she has admitted Eala may be the number one.

A number of players from both the ATP and WTA Tours have spoken to Overtime Tennis across the sunshine double of Indian Wells and the Miami Open.

These players have been asked which tennis players would have the highest selling jersey if that was something that tennis players had.

While Gauff named herself to begin with, she then admitted that Eala would probably sell even more than her.

“Alex Eala,” said Gauff. “She has a huge fanbase, she actually would be number one probably.”

Gauff also named world number one Aryna Sabalenka, but she was not the only player to pick Eala.

World number 17 Iva Jovic, who is one of Eala’s closest friends on tour, also spoke about the Filipina’s popularity.

“Alex Eala, because so many fans,” answered Jovic. “So many Filipinos show up, I love it, I think it’s great.”

Eala has significantly bridged this gap over the past year, and her popularity does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
