Carlos Alcaraz extended his winning run to 12 matches on Saturday, picking up the Qatar Open title for the first time in his career.

He arrived in Doha fresh off a Grand Slam sweep that began with a dominant Australian Open win, solidifying his place at the top of the rankings.

Alcaraz’s margin over Sinner now stands at more than 3,000 points after Fils lost early and Sinner exited in the quarter-finals.

Sinner was knocked out by Jakub Mensik, while Fils suffered an opening-round defeat to Dusan Lajovic.

Reports suggested both Alcaraz and Sinner received substantial appearance fees for playing in Doha, though Sam Querrey believes Alcaraz should have earned considerably more.

La Gazzetta dello Sport recently reported that both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner were paid $1.2 million each to play in the Qatar Open.

Speaking on the Nothing Major Show, Sam Querrey, Steve Johnson, Jack Sock, and John Isner discussed whether Alcaraz deserved a higher fee than Sinner for appearances.

The conversation began with Johnson saying: “We all guessed their appearance fees. He [Alcaraz] and Sinner got the same. It was like $1.2 million. I mean, that’s reported.”

Querrey responded by asking: “Who’s reporting this?”

Johnson answered: “I don’t know [La Gazetta dello Sport] but they are getting the same.”

The former Wimbledon semi-finalist then added: “They are getting the same. Carlos should be getting a little more.”

Johnson agreed, replying: “Probably.”

Isner also brought up their exhibition match in January, where both players were reportedly paid $2.3 million each.

Sock added to the conversation by saying: “He [Alcaraz] definitely puts on more of a show, sells more tickets.”

Alcaraz extends impressive hard-court streak

By beating Fils on Saturday, Alcaraz extended his unbeaten run on outdoor hardcourts to 30 matches in a row.

The streak goes back to August of last year, when he got past Damir Dzumhur in the opening round of the Cincinnati Open.

Since then, he has added titles at the US Open, Japan Open, Australian Open and Qatar Open to his growing list of hard-court wins.

Alcaraz will have the opportunity to extend his streak in North America when he competes at the Indian Wells Masters in California.

Alcaraz made it to the semi-finals at Indian Wells last year before losing to eventual champion Jack Draper.
