Unless Carlos Alcaraz has changed addresses in recent weeks, the tennis star still lives with his parents, Carlos Alcaraz Sr. and Virginia Garfia. Alcarez’s choice of homes shows just how tight a bond the superstar has with his family.

Alcaraz grew up in El Palmar, a suburb outside of Murcia, Spain. It is not just Alcaraz’s parents that are involved in the star’s rise in tennis.

Alcaraz’s older brother Alvaro is his hitting partner with the two-time Wimbledon champion relying on his family to complete his circle of trust. During a June 29, 2024, interview with The Times’ Matthew Syed, the 22-year-old explained why his parents are still his roommates.

“When I finish a tournament, it doesn’t matter if I win or not, I just want to get home to be with my family,” Alcaraz said at the time. “I live with my mum and dad, my older brother and two younger brothers.

“To them I am not a big tennis star, just a normal guy. One of the things about tennis is that you travel a lot and my dad and older brother come with me. My older brother is my hitting partner.”

Alcaraz comes by his love of tennis naturally. The star’s father was a standout tennis player in Spain as a teenager.

“The beautiful places (is why I love tennis), the beautiful courts that I saw when I was a kid, the beautiful matches,” Alcaraz told Sports Illustrated’s Jon Wertheim during a Sept. 7, 2022, interview.

“And yes. I loved tennis since the beginning. I mean my father brought me my first racket and the first time that I played tennis I fell in love, so I have not any specific moment to that, I watch that I fell in love with one. Just so many beautiful matches.”
