Earlier this year, Colombian tennis player Camila Osorio claimed a straight-sets victory over Alexandra Eala at the first-ever Philippine Women’s Open.

They faced off in the quarter-finals of the WTA 125k event, with Osorio coming out on top 6-4, 6-4 to advance further in the tournament.

Osorio continued her strong run, defeating Solana Sierra in the semi-finals before going on to lift the trophy with a win over Donna Vekic in the final.

Two months after that match, Osorio shared her thoughts on what it was like to face Eala and spoke about how fans in Colombia compare to those she encountered during her time at PHWO 2024. “It was fun. We actually knew each other because we trained together before,” Osorio told Filipina media personality Migs Bustos when asked about their encounter at PHWO.

“Well, something that I’m super, super happy and like honoured that it was like to play in Philippines in Manila against someone like Alex,” Osorio said during her pre-tournament press conference at the Copa Colsanitas Open in Bogota, as reported by Cancha Central.

“First, she’s amazing, an amazing person, an amazing player.

“So it was a great, a great experience for me to play in front of her people, and everything. I enjoyed it so much because they were so respectful too.

“So it was like, really, really interesting for me at least, because, for example, when I’m in Colombia, here everyone is cheering for me.

“There I felt all the opposite— you know what I mean? Like people were all over her… It felt completely different but equally beautiful.”

The former world number 33 added: “I don’t know… it’s just like they’re similar to us Colombians because they’re very passionate. So when they’re going for someone – they’re really going for that person. So yeah… that’s really similar to us.”

Eala is taking this week off but will return at the WTA 500 Linz Open next week before heading back to Germany for Stuttgart qualifying.

Alex Eala faces tough field at Linz Open

Following a drop of 16 places to world number 45, Alex Eala will be aiming to regain some momentum at the Linz Open next week.

The Filipina is set to compete against a strong lineup, which includes two-time Grand Slam winner Barbora Krejcikova and recent Abu Dhabi champion Sara Bejlek.

Defending champion Ekaterina Alexandrova is also returning to Linz, along with British players Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter.

Other names in the draw include Clara Tauson – whom Eala defeated at the 2025 US Open – and Marketa Vondrousova, who won Wimbledon in 2023.

Eala’s full draw for Linz will be confirmed ahead of her opening match on Monday, March 10th.
