Marco Trungelliti has pulled off an incredible achievement on the tennis court.

At 36, the Argentine veteran has broken into the ATP top 100 for the first time in his career.

Trungelliti’s milestone was sealed on Friday after he came from behind to defeat Corentin Moutet, taking down the Frenchman 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

He came into the tournament as a heavy underdog, especially since he had to start his campaign in the qualifiers.

He then beat Hynek Barton and Japan’s Rai Sakamoto to reach the main draw, where he continued his run by getting past Henrique Rocha of Portugal in the opening round.

The following match saw Trungelliti pull off another surprise, this time against Kamil Majchrzak, who was seeded fifth.

Trungelliti will face an even bigger challenge in the semi-finals when he faces top seed and world number 19 Luciano Darderi.

Darderi is something of a clay-court specialist, as demonstrated by his four ATP Tour titles on the surface last year.

However, with Trungelliti in such scintillating form, there is every chance he could pull off yet another upset in Morocco.

How high can Marco Trungelliti go in the ATP rankings?

Trungelliti is expected to climb 32 spots to world number 85 after earning 106 ATP ranking points at the Marrakech Open.

If he gets past Darderi, another 65 points will be added to his total. And should he go all the way and lift the trophy, an additional 85 points would come his way.

A title run would leave Trungelliti with a career-high ranking and over 800 points in the bag – numbers that few would have predicted at the start of this week.
